Grande Prairie Tony Roma’s shuttered

The Tony Roma’s in Grande Prairie has closed its doors with staff getting less than 24 hours notice that they are out of a job.

“Management found out at 11:45 [Tuesday morning] and immediately started calling all staff to have a conversation one on one to let us know what was happening,” says former server Darian LaValley.

LaValley says the staff was informed that they were shutting down throughout the day, but it was done on an individual basis in a manner she calls professional.

“Everyone is getting severance pay [and] yes it is sad but we are thankful that our head manager did everything in her power to make it easier on all of us,” she notes.

She adds she wasn’t scheduled to work on Tuesday, but LaValley says her heart goes out to her coworkers who not only had to share the bad news but who are also out of work because of it.

“I am heartbroken for my manager… that restaurant was everything to her.”

The closure comes on the back of a slew of closures in Edmonton, where five Tony Roma’s locations have been closed over the last month. A request for comment from Tony Roma’s has not yet been returned.
