History made on Pomeroy Inn & Suites Peace Curling Tour

For the first time in history, a female skip has won gold at a cash spiel on the Pomeroy Inn and Suites Peace Curling Tour.

Skip Delia Dejong, along with teammates Stephanie Malekoff, Jaclyn Collins and Vern Boyd, took down team Scott Webb of Peace River in the finals of the Cora Breakfast and Lunch Cash Spiel on October 13th.

“This outstanding win by Delia over a field that included a number of provincial and Canadian championship curlers simply illustrates not only their great skill and ability but the wonderful opportunity our Tour gives curlers of all ages and genders to win the gold medal,” says Peace Curling Development Society President Colin Griffith.

Dejong says she felt fairly at ease from the moment the tournament began, and the trust of her teammates allowed her to keep her eyes on the prize.

“This newly-minted team melded together from the first rock thrown, and knowing I had the full support of my team allowed me to relax and focus.”

Dejong failed to qualify for the 2018 Grande Prairie Cash Spiel.
