Grande Prairie's third round of snow removal this winter is going quickly

City Snow removal crews have been busy this week with what is their third round of snow clearing so far this winter.

On Monday, roughly 40 tickets were handed out to vehicles violating parking bans on permanent snow routes.

Transportation Services Manager Robert Carroll says it goes to show that people still aren’t getting the message.

“We declare these for a reason, they get the vehicles off the roads so we can quickly and efficiently get in there and remove the snow. 40 tickets is still quite a large amount, so I’d like to see that be at zero. It’s better than it’s been, but it’s still an issue for us.”

Today is day three of residential snow clearing, crews will be working in Avondale, College Park, Swanavon, Highland Park, Smith, Morgan Meadows, Cobblestone, and Riverstone.

Carroll says he hopes to have hit every street in the city by Friday, 8 days after that New Year’s Day snowfall.

“We still have windrows on a lot of our Priority 2’s, but they will be cleared, and all of our residential streets should be cleared by this Friday if we keep going at the pace they are going.”

Carroll says it took operators some time to adjust to the new snow clearing policy this winter, the process gets smoother with every round of snow clearing.
