Western Alberta unemployment rate drops to 5.2 per cent

A big drop in the unemployment rate for western Alberta for the month of July.

Statistics Canada says the economic region which houses Grande Prairie and Peace River lowered half a point to 5.2 percent for the month, down from 6 per cent this time last year.

Alberta’s overall unemployment rose to 7 per cent in July, up from 6.6 per cent in June. The Canadian national average meanwhile sits at just 5.7 per cent, up from 5.5 in June.
