Water to Wembley taps turned on

The taps to the Water to Wembley project have officially been turned on.

Officials say the 26-kilometre transmission line from the Aquatera treatment plant in the City of Grande Prairie to the Town of Wembley reservoir, will alleviate the need for water restrictions for residents, and also provide high quality, reliable drinking water.

“For more than a decade, Aquatera and the Town have been working together toward a solution that would see Aquatera providing clean, safe, reliable water to the community of Wembley,” said Interim CEO, Jeff Pieper. “Today marks an incredible achievement for both Aquatera and the Town,” he added.

Construction on the line first began in 2018 and the hope is to extend it to Beaverlodge, Hythe, and Horse Lake First Nation.
