Changes announced to Grande Prairie outdoor event permit bylaw

City officials hope changes to the Outdoor Event Permit Bylaw will provide groups looking to put on big events in Grande Prairie a more streamlined process.

One of the largest changes includes the amendment that if approval is required from more than two departments, an event permit is required. Community Development Coordinator with the City of Grande Prairie Patricia Millward suggests that it could create an easier experience for both the city and organizers.

“Having one point of contact and streamlining that process makes it easier for those organizers to get any additional permits or requirements necessary to get their permits for the event,” she said.

The changes also come in the form of a non-refundable permit fee of $250, as well as permit required no less than 60 days ahead of an event, as opposed to the old deadline of 30 days.

“This is because of the time required. It gives us lots of time to work with those event coordinators who will be working with multiple departments,” she added.

An outdoor event permit is now required for all outdoor events held on city property including in parking lots and at city-owned facilities.
