A Grande Prairie man is facing charges after reports of someone breaking into mailboxes led police to seize drugs and weapons. RCMP says officers were called to an apartment building on March 31st and found the illegal things with the theft suspect.
33-year-old Michael Jeffrey Ginter is charged with multiple counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, of property obtained by crime, and of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. His charges also include careless use of a firearm and failing to comply with conditions of release.
Ginter was previously the subject of a trial over the 2016 death of a B.C. man in the parking lot of Grande Prairie’s Home Hardware. He was convicted of failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily harm or death in September 2018, but his manslaughter and dangerous driving charges were withdrawn when the Crown felt it could no longer prove his intent.
The mail theft suspect is in police custody with a court date set for May 6, 2019. The public has been thanked for their help in the case.
