IIO investigating after the death of a woman in Dawson Creek RCMP custody
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C is investigating after the death of a female in the custody of the Dawson Creek RCMP.
The RCMP reported that a female and male were taken into custody during the early hours of April 13th. When they were transported to their cells, authorities say the unidentified woman’s behaviour warranted a call to Emergency Health Services.
She went into medical distress upon their arrival, was initially transferred to the hospital in Dawson Creek before being transported to Prince George Regional Hospital where she died the next day.
The IIO says it is investigating to “determine what role, if any, the officers’ actions or inaction may have played in the death of the female.”
