Mia Ouellet-Wilson’s reign as Miss Teenage Northern Alberta is off to a busy start. The Grande Prairie teen recently won her title at the Miss Teenage Alberta Pageant in Calgary and will now go on to represent the city and all of northern Alberta at the National Canadian Pageant in Toronto this summer.
“It’s really exciting. It’s kind of scaring me cause there’s a lot of commitment and stuff. I have to do a bunch of other events, I have to get sponsors and I have to go to Toronto for six days and I won’t see my family but it’s also super exciting at the same time.”
Mia says she first got the idea to enter a pageant after watching the TLC show Toddler in Tiaras and doing some research. After applying just for fun she was chosen.
Through four rounds of competition, the 20 competitors were scored in evening gown, interview, photogenic and bathing suit categories. From there, nine girls were chosen including Mia to make the trip to Toronto. This time around, she says she wants to use her title to spread a message.
“My platform is global warming and sustainable living. I want to raise awareness for the harm that we’re causing to our environment. I want to use this pageant and my title to inform the public because really all our influential leader and politicians are just sweeping it under the mat and saying it’s not a big issue but it is a big issue.”
