Rycroft School to reopen Monday, water outage remains

Classes will be back in session Monday at Rycroft School. The building has been closed down since Thursday, February 28, after a water main in the village broke.

Peace Wapiti Public School Division says maintenance staff will bring in water for drinking and flushing, as well as hand sanitizer. A boil water advisory remains in effect for the area, along with a state of local emergency.

The village says crews haven’t been able to dig over the weekend due to extreme cold weather. The plan is to focus on repairing the break Monday in order to restore service.

In the meantime, residents can get four litres of bottled water a day from Yanishewski’s shop at 4911 46 Avenue from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Containers need to be brought to collect non-potable water. Bottled water is also available at the CO-op grocery store during regular business hours.
