Home prices, listings, sales down for month of January

The average price of a home in Grande Prairie has dropped since last January. In data released by the Grande Prairie and Area Association of Realtors, the average price of a home sold in January 2019 was $283,914. That’s down 4.1 per cent from the same month in 2018.

The provincial average price for a home sold in January was $361,333, down 5 per cent from January 2018. The association says the average residential price should only be used to establish trends and does not indicate the actual price of a home.

There were 403 new residential listings in January 2019. This was down 4.3 per cent and was the lowest its been for the month in seven years.

When it comes to overall sales, 128 houses and apartments were sold in the first month of the year, down 17.4 per cent from January 2018. The total value of all properties sold was $41.3 million, down 13.3 per cent from January 2018.
