People are being reminded to stay vigilant while looking for rental properties online. Since January, Grande Prairie RCMP says it has received multiple reports of rental fraud.
In these cases, officers say people have been posting ads online for properties which they don’t own and then asking prospective renters for security deposits. The suspect is then given the deposit and stops communication with the victim.
RCMP is reminding the public to be careful while conducting online transactions and to check the item being purchased before paying. Police say they will continue to investigate these incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call Grande Prairie RCMP at 780-830-5700 or Crime Stoppers.
