City approves Bear Creek North Area Structure Plan

The City of Grande Prairie now has a clearer picture of what to do with a large piece of land in the area. City council has approved the Bear Creek North Area Structure Plan which shows what the future could look like for the land north of the airport and west of 116 Street.

Area structure plans are meant to guide the city in long-term planning and development while looking at current residential, agricultural and recreation use.

The land includes Bear Creek, which the city considers a significant environmental asset. The city also hopes to take advantage of the construction of Hwy 43X. Future plans for the site include adding housing, as well as a number of possible schools and recreation facilities.

The city started working on the ASP back in 2017 to address the growing population. Since then, there have been three open houses held to hear from landowners, residents and other stakeholders who may be impacted.
