Disaster relief funding available for Beaverlodge flood damage

People whose property suffered damage in the Beaverlodge flooding last August can get some help from the province. The town’s application for disaster relief funding has been approved.

More than 45 millimetres of rain fell over the town in just two hours on August 1, 2018. Local highways were flooded for a short time, and the town declared a local state of emergency.

Anyone whose home, business or property suffered damage or loss from the water could be eligible for funding to help cover what wasn’t taken care of by insurance. Mayor Gary Rycroft initially estimated that somewhere around 100 home were affected in some way.

A case manager will be at the Town of Beaverlodge Municipal Office on December 11th and 12th to meet with property owners in person. Applications can also be submitted on the provincial government’s website by February 19th.
