County surprised by annexation information shared by City

The County of Grande Prairie says it’s surprised by some of the information being sent out to city residents on its annexation application.

Reeve Leanne Beaupre says they’ve been fielding questions about one point, which reportedly says taxes and user fees could go up if the City can’t annex the land it’s requested.

In a letter addressed to County residents, Beaupre argues this point hasn’t been brought up at an past public discussions, and worries it’s coming out at a sensitive time.

She maintains the County supports the City’s need for more land to deal with growth, but wants to make sure residents and businesses aren’t negatively affected.

Beaupre directs residents to the County’s website, where they’ve got a list of FAQs, including whether people can still participate in the final annexation merit hearing on October 27th.
