Grande Prairie Safe Communities renovations completed

Grande Prairie & Area Safe Communities has unveiled the results of restoration work done over the past year.

Their old carpet was removed by volunteers from Telus, while a team from Home Depot installed new flooring, and Atco Electric painted the facility.

That’s all thanks to a $3,000 grant and $750 in paint from the Benjamin Moore Community Restoration Program, and local Safe Communities Co-Chair Donna Kulba says it’s much needed.

“They’re very important. We have a lot of people coming through here; we have people that rent the building; we have children that come through for safety programming on a daily basis.”

Grande Prairie has been designated as a Safe Community since 1997, and Kulba says their focus this year is on reducing distracted driving in our community.

“We have a lot of people moving here and it’s very busy. With industry and the oil and gas starting up here over the winter, we want people to be aware that texting is not something that’s safe to do while you’re driving.”

Safe Communities groups work to create a safer life for people in their region.
