Two arrested after lengthy rural police chase

Extra RCMP resources were brought in to catch a pair of alleged vehicle thieves Wednesday. Extra members from Spirit River and Dawson Creek, B.C. joined Grande Prairie RCMP, along with an RCMP helicopter and an Emergency Response Team from Edmonton.

The incident started near Webster around 11 a.m., where a suspicious man was reportedly acting erratically around a vehicle stuck in a ditch. Witnesses said he and a woman left the area on a quad, but police weren’t able to stop them.

It turns out the ditched truck and the quad had both been reported stolen, and a few minutes later another truck was reported stolen. RCMP says the man is known to be a dangerous offender, and once the third vehicle was found and wouldn’t pull over, reinforcements were brought in.

Eventually, the chopper found the truck near Bonanza, and it hit two police cruisers before coming to a stop. A 35-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were arrested and remain in police custody. Charges are pending and no injuries have been reported.
