Deadline approaching to apply for volunteer awards

Volunteers who make a difference in the Grande Prairie area can now be nominated for one of four awards. The City and the Grande Prairie Volunteer Services Bureau will be accepting nominations until the end of the month.

The Volunteer of the Year Award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to their community in the last 12 months. The second award the Bureau has is the Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award. That one is given to a company who has made an impact on a non-profit organization.

For both awards, the contributions have to have taken place between December 2018 and October 2018. Applications for those two awards will be accepted on the Bureau’s website until October 29. The awards will then be presented on December 5.

On the City’s side, the George Repka Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes people who have made contributions to their community. To qualify for that award, the nominee must have over 20 years of volunteer contributions in the areas of recreation, culture or social services.

The Bill Bowes Volunteer Organization of the Year Award is given to a group that has contributed to the community through services, contributions and community development. Nominees must have helped through things like fundraising and volunteering. The organization must also be located within the city limits.

Nominations for both those awards will be accepted on the city’s website until November 1.
