There could soon be another cell phone provider in the city. Eastlink Wireless is planning to build a 25-metre tall cell tower in Grande Prairie so that they can provide cell phone service to residents.
The tower would be located in the Brochu Industrial park at 10402 123 Street, east of the airport. Eastlink says the new tower would allow them to offer more reliable cell service in the city and surrounding area.
The airport has given approval for the project and all property owners living within 75-metres of the proposed tower have received notice.
The city’s Infrastructure and Protective Services Committee has shown support for the project but it still needs to be approved by city council before construction can start.
