Electronic fare boxes first step towards an easier way to pay

The city is taking the first steps towards giving transit riders an easier way to pay bus fare. Starting September 10, riders will see electronic fare collection boxes installed in buses across the city that will allow riders to use the new SUPERPASS card.

The card is being introduced as an alternative to cash and will allow riders to tap-and-go to pay bus fare. They can be purchased anywhere transit products are sold and come pre-loaded with either a monthly pass or 10 ride pass.

Once the card has been used, people can visit participating city facilities to purchase new products that can be added to their card or they can visit the registration website to re-load their fare digitally with a credit card.

Beginning January 1, only the SUPERPASS and cash in the form of coins will be accepted as forms of payment on city buses. All previously purchased paper tickets and passes can still be used until December 31 but are no longer being sold.
