Support workshops for Grande Prairie stroke survivors

A free group learning program developed by the Heart and Stroke Foundation starts next week for local stroke survivors and their caregivers.

They’ll learn more about dealing with the effects of a stroke, and the important of actively participating in their own recovery.

Grande Prairie stroke navigator Darlene Peacock says it’s also a great opportunity to create a support network.

“Other people sharing their experiences and asking questions and hearing other people’s stories sometimes helps people understand they’re not alone, and that maybe they’re not as bad off as they could have been compared to some other people.”

It’s an eight week program, and they’re encouraged to continue to meet up if they want.

The first meeting is Thursday, September 25th at St. Paul’s United Church.

To register, call the QEII’s Rehabilitation Department at 780-538-7360 by this Wednesday.
