Tractor driver killed in Highway 49 crash

The death toll from crashes in the Peace Country over the past 24 hours has risen to five. Spirit River RCMP say a 74-year-old man driving a tractor was killed in a crash with a semi-truck near Gordondale at 4:40 Tuesday afternoon.

The man was hauling hay on Highway 49 when he started to turn left at the intersection with Range Road 110. He was then hit by the tractor-trailer heading west.

The tractor driver was declared dead at the scene and the semi driver wasn’t hurt. An RCMP collision analyst was brought in to investigate.

Just an hour earlier, Spirit River RCMP were also called to a crash near the entrance to Woking at Highway 2 and Township Road 763. Police say a pickup truck heading west on the Township Road hit an unloaded semi truck heading south on the Highway
