Heavy rain forecast for Grande Prairie

The Grande Prairie region looks to be in for a downpour. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement saying 40 to 80 millimetres of rain is expected in west-central Alberta from Thursday to Sunday.

“A slow-moving low pressure system is slated to affect west-central Alberta starting with showers and thunderstorms beginning on Thursday night. Rain will ease on Friday during the day, and then another period of showers and thunderstorms is expected to develop and slowly move through the area.”

Rain and thunderstorms are expected to stick around until Sunday when the system is expected to leave the area. Environment Canada adds that some areas could get more than 100 millimetres of rain, especially if they’re subjected to slow-moving thunderstorms.

The weather forecast for the City of Grande Prairie is currently calling for rain Friday and Saturday and a 70 per cent chance of rain on Sunday.
