Spray parks open early

Thanks to the recent warm weather, Grande Prairie’s spray parks have opened early. They’re typically scheduled to start running at the beginning of June, but the city’s facilities department work with Aquatera and the contractor in charge of the Bear Creek Pool construction to have them open on May 18th.

The Muskoseepi Spray Park is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, however the Ernie Radbourne Pavillion will have shortened hours over the May long weekend. It will be open from 12 to 6 p.m., and back to regular hours on Tuesday. The Lions Park spray deck also opened Friday.

Other city facilities that have opened for the summer include the Rotary Campsite and Bear Paw RV Park, the Bear Paw Par 3 Golf Course, the washrooms at Lions Park and Centre 2000, the sani-dump stations at South Bear Creek and Centre 2000. The washroom facility at Crystal Park should open on June 1st, with portables in place until then.

At the same time, the city is still asking people to stick to paved trails in Muskoseepi Park. Water levels along the Bear Creek corridor are still high with fast moving water, and the banks could be unstable.

Part of the Canfor trail north of 84 Avenue and east of the mill has also been permanently closed due to an eroding creek bank.
