Grande Prairie man pleads guilty to daughter’s sexual abuse

A Grande Prairie man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for sex offences involving his teenage daughter. The Edmonton Journal reports the man, who can’t be identified to protect his daughter’s identity, plead guilty Tuesday to three charges. They include touching for a sexual purpose, making child pornography and knowingly having sexual intercourse with his daughter.

According to an agreed statement of facts, the father took the 15 year old girl from Grande Prairie to the Fantasyland Hotel in the West Edmonton Mall the weekend of January 16, 2015. He had told her mother and stepmother he was taking her hunting.

Once in the hotel, he forced the teen to drink alcohol and a take an unknown narcotic. He then made her wear lingerie and pose for photos before sexually assaulting her. The abuse continued even after she told him she was in pain.

The two returned to Grande Prairie the next day, and the girl reported the assault to police on April 21, 2015. A victim impact statement read in court detailed the fear she has lived in since.

As part of his sentence, the father will be banned from having weapons and will have to submit a DNA sample to a federal database. He also won’t be allowed to communicate with anyone under the age of 16, or be anywhere or hold any position where he would be in contact with someone under that age. He will only be allowed to see his other children with court permission and a supervisor other than his wife.
