Celebrate Pink-Fest in the Pinkest Little Town in the West

The 2013 “Pinkest Town in the West” is putting on the aptly named Pink-Fest this weekend at the COCO Sportsground.

The “Pink Lady” Teresa Nuthall explains the Hamlet of Wanham earned the moniker in a contest last year, and won a community celebration.

“Our little town of 162 people won this challenge. We had painted our town pink and raised close to $60,000 that was donated to the Alberta Cancer Foundation. They provide you with some money to put on a fundraiser for your own community.”

All the proceeds from the gate will go towards local community service groups, as well as a medical fund in the works.

From Friday afternoon through Sunday, there will be everything from tractor pulls to a carnival and ladies pampering, as well as entertainment at night.

Nuthall hopes the both the pink town and the event can honour those touched by cancer, as their efforts were for more than just winning a contest.

“It wasn’t about the raising of money for breast cancer or any cancer foundation; it was about honouring those lives and those people that loved those people, and that’s what matter to me – that we must let them know that they’re important.”
