Body found near Hay River believed to be missing man

RCMP in Hay River have found the body of a man believed to have been missing since the beginning of April. A Hay River resident discovered the remains after noticing an unusual shape in the snow Sunday afternoon, and the body has been recovered with the use of a snowmobile.

Police say it’s believed to be 34 year old Junghwan Park, who also went by David. He was last seen on April 3rd in Hay River, and an exhaustive search by foot, snowmobile, and air was done by emergency services an volunteers. RCMP said he may have also travelled to the Grande Prairie or Clairmont area.

“The discovery of the deceased male is believed to be that of David Park,” says Marie York-Condon wit NT RCMP Media Relations. “We are working with the NWT Coroner Service to continue the investigation. We thank everyone, the co-workers, the community of Hay River, the neighbouring police jurisdictions, and the public in general for their concern and search efforts.”

An autopsy will be done by NWT Coroner Service to determine the deceased’s identity and cause of death. Park is a Korean National and RCMP say they have been working with the Korean Consulate.
