Nitehawk waiting on final emergency funding from city

The city is considering a $40,000 bail out for the Nitehawk Recreation Area.

The facility has so far received $80,000 from the MD of Greenview and another $40,000 from the County of Grande Prairie.

Board of Directors Chair Brian Freemark says the emergency funding became necessary after they found themselves in a bit of tight spot financially.

“We’re kind of feeling that we’re at the top end of what we can charge ticket wise and we know we can’t tax anymore on the consumer, so we had to go to the municipalities for assistance.”

A rough 2013-2014 winter season put the business $160,000 in the red, but Freemark says they are working on a long term business plan to ensure they don’t end up in a similar situation in the future.
