Art Gallery of Grande Prairie welcomes new curator

The newest fixture of the Grande Prairie Art Gallery is being installed as of September 1.

Griffith Aaron Baker has been hired to take over as Curator and Executive Director of the Gallery, after Robert Steven vacated the position earlier this year.

Baker says he expects the gallery will remain fairly ‘business as usual’ once he arrives.

“Like all professional art galleries, our artists are actually programmed in 2-3 years in advance. I’ve got a different perspective, I know different artists from across Canada, so you might see a bit of a shift a couple years from now, but for the most part we’ll just keep the gallery going.”

Baker says he is very excited about the gallery we have here in Grande Prairie.

“It’s an absolutely phenomenal art gallery, it’s one of the nicest galleries that I’ve seen. For Grande Prairie to have such an asset, it’s just absolutely astonishing. It’s a huge highlight for the community, you should be very proud that it’s there.”

Baker is coming to Grande Prairie from the Mann Art Gallery in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
