BC’s Integrated Child Exploitation unit alerted Fort St. John RCMP recently that there maybe “sexting/sextortion” victims in their area. RCMP believe that “several” teens may have shared intimate photos of themselves and are now being extorted.
Investigators say they think there are more victims that have not come forward. Authorities say anyone who may have recently shared photos or who may have been asked to do so are urged to contact RCMP. Parents are asked to talk to their teens about safe internet and cell phone usage.
RCMP also say that the possession or circulation of photos of anyone under 18 is a crime which could lead to charges related to child pornography, criminal harassment or even child luring.
