Still time to apply for disaster relief funding

The province has so far gotten 62 applications for disaster relief funding to help with damage sustained during the August 2016 flooding in Grande Prairie. Case workers were up in the city last week to meet with potentially eligible residents, businesses, and property owners.

The bulk of the applications are from home owners, with 35 received so far. Another 10 came from landlords, nine from small businesses and eight from tenants.

Grande Prairie suffered widespread flooding the afternoon of August 2, 2016 and the province got reports of damage to roughly 400 homes and 200 small businesses. The City applied for the province’s Disaster Recovery Program, and $4.8 million in funding was recently approved.

People affected have until January 25th to submit an application. Forms are available at city hall, or a PDF is available online.
