While the City has been planning its Centennial Spectacular in Grande Prairie this weekend, local boxers have been putting in work preparing for another special event.

On Saturday, Champion Gym is hosting the Centennial Belt, to celebrate 100 years of boxing in Grande Prairie.

On the card are local amateur boxers, along with an exhibition of the history of boxing in the area.

There will also be special appearances by Grande Prairie’s Willie de Wit, an Olympic silver medalist among other accomplishments, and Danny Quinn, the current Golden Gloves champion.

The event will run from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Reach Centre.
