With 75 per cent of the vote, Gary Rycroft has been elected mayor of Beaverlodge. The former town councillor and volunteer firefighter beat out incumbent councillor Roger Loberg, who unofficially received 151 to Rycroft’s 556 votes.

Rycroft was born and raised in Beaverlodge, and currently owns and operates a trucking company. In addition to two terms on town council and 45 years with the fire department, he says he also owned, operated and worked for the Beaverlodge Ambulance Service and was on the board of directors from Grande Prairie Regional EMS for 27 years.

Rycroft replaces mayor Leona Hanson, who didn’t run for re-election. He’ll be joined by an almost entirely new council, as only Judy Kokotilo-Bekkerus ran again and was acclaimed along with the rest. The newcomers are Cyndi Corbett, Terry Dueck, Hugh Graw, Gena Jones, and Cal Mosher.
