Peace Region power engineers to benefit from new steam lab training facility

The Harper government has announced $1 Million in funding to support a new power engineering steam lab for the Peace River campus of Northern Lakes College.
Michelle Rempel is the Minister for Western Economic Diversification.
She says it’s important to invest in training skilled workers in their home communities.
“We know that we need those workers going into the field to be trained and safe, both for their own personal safety, and to ensure that industry has a certain level of productivity. The beautiful thing about this project is that it is a true partnership between industry, government, and the college.”
Ann Everatt, President and CEO of Northern Lakes College, says there is need in our region for this kind of training equipment.
“Part of the program is the students actually learning how to operate in a power engineering environment, using equipment in a controlled environment. They need so many hours to get their ABSA qualifications, so this provides that opportunity.”
The new lab, which is already under construction, will allow the college to train 80 more students annually through it’s power engineering program.
