The province has issued a notice about prescribed fire operations over the next week. There are plans to do a burn near Prairie Creek Road, about 28 kilometres north of Grande Cache, if weather permits. People may notice smoke from Highway 40.
With rain in the forecast the wildfire hazard could change, but it is currently sitting at moderate in the Grande Prairie Forest Protection area. This season there has been 28 wildfires that have burned 4.93 hectares in the region. Last year at this time, there were 57 fires that had burned 137.98 hectares.
People are asked to report smoke seen in forested areas at 310-FIRE. Campers are also asked to make sure their fire is out completely before leaving it.
