War Amps key tags in the mail

The War Amps are once again sending key tags out across Alberta as part of the free service they’ve offered since the 1940s.

“Basically, the key tag is a coded number that corresponds to the name and address of the owner of the keys,” says Shannon Kryzowski with the organization. “You can just hook it onto the key ring. So if a person happens to lose their keys or misplace them and somebody finds them, there’s a 1-800 number on the back of the key tag that can be called. Then we’ll have a courier service deliver those keys to the owner free of charge. You can also put them in a mail box and it will go back to the key tag program as well.”

Though the service is free, Kryzowski notes that making a donation to the War Amps is a common practice for those who get their keys back. The organization receives no government grants. Donations to the Key Tag Service fund the Association’s many programs for war amputees, and all Canadian amputees, including children.

Many Albertans have received their key tags already. If you haven’t gotten yours and would like one, you can contact the War Amps at at waramps.ca or call toll-free 1-800-250-3030.
