UPDATE: Highway 40 reopens after rockslide

UPDATE: According to Grande Cache Emergency Services, the highway has been cleared and reopened to traffic.

Highway 40 about 10 kilometres north of Grande Cache closed in both directions early Friday afternoon. A major rock slide came across the road and Grande Cache Emergency Services says it could take 6 to 10 hour to open again.

Weather conditions are not adding to the mix and crews are asking the public to stay away as it is dangerous.

Drivers are asked to use a different route to get to Grande Prairie or vice versa.
