St. Joe's track star defends provincial 3000m title

Grade 12 St. Joe’s student Mirelle Martens has defended her provincial title in the Senior Women’s 3,000 metre race at provincials.

Martens broke away in the last 400 metres to earn her personal best time of 10:32.

Martens is also coming home with a silver in the 1,500 metre, as the only local athlete to medal.

Kelsey Bishop from Composite High placed sixth in the Junior Women’s 100 metre, while Eaglesham’s Brittany Duvall came seventh in both the Junior Women’s 1,500 and 3,000 metre.

Those three and Beaverlodge’s Kailey Bratland made up the zone’s 4×400 women’s relay team, which also placed seventh.
