Fire advisory issued for County, Grande Prairie Forest Area

UPDATE: The County of Grande Prairie has followed suit and issued its own fire advisory. Residents with permits are being asked not to burn and no new permits will be issued until further notice.

As usual, burning in the County is not allowed when the wind is 12 kilometres an hour or stronger. Burning is never allowed in the Dunes Natural Area.

Continued warm temperatures and wind have prompted the province to issue a fire advisory for the Grande Prairie Forest Area. It will stay in place until conditions improve.

While people who already have fire permits can still use them, anyone doing any burning is asked to watch wind speeds and be prepared to extinguish their fire if needed. Wildfire information officer Melinda Paplawski says permits could be suspended if the warm, dry weather continues.

Small, safe campfires are still allowed, and as always, they should never be left unattended. Campers should soak them, stir them, and soak them again until cool to make sure they are fully put out.
