Almost all Grande Prairie wildfires so far human-caused

Although the Grande Prairie region got a significant amount of rain earlier this week, dry conditions in the forecast have prompted the province to up the wildfire hazard to moderate. Wildfire information officer Melinda Paplawski says we’re expecting warmer temperatures and a drop in humidity, which means there’s a bigger risk of a fire starting.

So far this season there have been 13 wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area, burning 2.4 hectares of land. 11 of them were cause by humans and the other two by lightning. All have since been put out.

If you see smoke in a forested area, call 310-FIRE.
