Construction coming to Coca Cola Centre

Over the summer, users of the Coca Cola Centre can be expected to be greeted by some construction. Renovation work is set to be done to the reception area to accommodate two more city staff to work there.

Right now, they are upstairs on the second floor in a space that the Minor Hockey Association needs to continue growing and make operations easier. Sport and Recreation Development Manager with the city Kylee Haining says they are hoping to have the work done before the next hockey season arrives.

“Now we need to put together the documents for construction companies to bid for the work and then award the work. There will be about 10 to 12 weeks of actual construction.”

Haining says they will have a makeshift reception area set up while construction is ongoing.

Once the front area is done, work will be done on the second level to extend the area that Minor Hockey is in. The Association’s Executive Director Lorna LeBlanc says they are looking forward to expanding their office space.

“We just need another office person to help with the paper work that is generated in here. We need a better space for the Technical Director because all the coaches want to come talk to him.”

Minor Hockey has 4.5 staff for 71 teams with 1,135 players. City Council redirected $121,800 approved in their 2014 Capital Plan from Knowledge Way Retaining Wall to the Coca-Cola Centre Office Space Renovations.
