Upgrades coming to Leisure Centre

The 40 year old Leisure Centre in Grande Prairie is set to get some upgrades. $200,000 has been set in the facility’s budget for the renovations.

The money will be used to have some minor upgrades to the fitness areas and reception area. There are also some fixes slated for the roof and entrance doors to the building. The soccer pitch is also set to get some upgrades to the lighting.

The pool in the building was closed in 2011 as the Eastlink Centre Pool was opened. In 2012, there was about $600,000 in upgrades done to the soccer pitches.

The operating budget for the Leisure Centre was reduced by $1 million in 2016 with a further reduction of $200,000 recently. Funds that were previously for the Leisure Centre are now going to the Bear Creek Outdoor Pool which is set for opening in 2018.
