Two charged after B&E, stolen vehicle set on fire

Two people have been arrested after a break in to a home in the rural Beaverlodge area Tuesday, February 28th. RCMP says the man and woman took several guns and other things from the house around 2:15 p.m., and left in an SUV.

The homeowner spotted the vehicle around 5 p.m. and called police. The woman got out and ran into a wooded area, but the man kept driving until the SUV got stuck on a back road on the way to Elmworth.

Police say he then lit the vehicle on fire and walked away, but was arrested soon after. The woman was later tracked down with the help of Police Dog Services, and it turns out the vehicle had been stolen from Whitecourt.

37 year old Jeremia Johnston from Saskatchewan and 33 year old Desiree Johnston of Hythe are facing several charges related to the break and enter, theft, and possession of stolen property and firearms without a licence. Jeremia also has an arson and breach charge. RCMP can’t confirm the relationship between the two, who will both appear in court on March 6th.
