GP Children’s Festival coming together

In less than 4 months, Grande Prairie residents will experience their first Children’s Festival. The two day event will go on May 25th-26th, 2017.

Creator Aum Nicol says the planning process has been smooth but it has also been a learning process.

“Our program is all set. We have our performers all on board. The schedule and times are all ready. The little nitty-gritty things like who is going to sponsor things like audio, tents and those kind of things.”

They have a goal of raising around $66,000 and are holding a fundraiser at the end of the month. The Hollywood Gala will be a creative way to experience the Oscars. Held at the Grande Prairie Live Theatre, there will be champagne, appetizers, and games to round of the event on February 26th.

“In the main theatre, there will be red carpet bingo. This will be where someone could guess who tripped up the stairs or something like that. It is just going to be fun.”

Early registration for teachers is also coming up quickly for the Festival. They will be able to register their schools or classes as early as February 11th. Anyone who needs help with registration can contact Julie Malkinson at [email protected]. Nicol explains that there are price tags attached to each performance but there are ways that everyone can come.

“We do have the opportunity for schools to get sponsors if they can’t afford to come.”

She says a company would be paired up with children to allow them to experience the arts.

The event will include everything in the arts from Hula Hoop Circus to Storytelling.
