Evergreen Park asking county to cover deficit

After the city said no to funding for Evergreen Park, the facility is now looking to the county. General Manager Dan Gorman says they are looking for help in covering a deficit of just over $660,000. He says it started in 2015 after receiving matching grants and having to look for money in a tough economic year.

“We have put a lot of things for 2017 and moving forward in order to evade that. Obviously, we aren’t going after matching capital funding right now with economy and everything else. We have made some internal changes as well.”

He says expenses were reduced by $200,000 as well as management and staff have had their wages frozen. Gorman says they hope the county will pull through with the money but if not, they have further action plans.

“We have a very strong board of Directors. We have a very strong financial management team. We just have to get through the very tough year we just had. We put together a 7 point strategic plan to do so.”
