UPDATE: Extreme cold warning re-issued for Peace region

UPDATE #2: Environment Canada has re-issued an extreme cold warning for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview and Whitecourt regions. One remains for Peace River – Fairview – High Prairie – Manning.

UPDATE: The extreme cold warning for the area has ended. We’re still expecting the windchill to feel like minus 37 today and overnight.

There is an extreme cold warning in effect for the region. Environment Canada has issued the alert for Hythe, Sexsmith, La Glace, Grande Prairie, Valleyview, and Wembley. It also stretches into the B.C. Peace. They say the area could experience temperatures at 40 below with the wind chill.

Hypothermia and frost bite are worries in this type of weather and it is recommended to dress appropriately. Babies, the elderly, people working outside, and homeless are some of many that could be at risk of getting hypothermia or frost bite, if they are not dressed warmly.
