Candy Cane Checkstop Campaign in full swing

If you get pulled over in the next couple of weeks, you may get a candy cane and a friendly safety reminder. One of 22 Candy Cane Checkstops in the region will be held in Grande Prairie today along with Fort Vermilion, La Crete, Grimshaw, and Fox Creek. Alberta Health Services and community partners run the campaign in the region to provide holiday safety messages.

Drivers are pulled over and given a candy cane along with some tips on safety. AHS includes reminders on not drinking and driving, preparing your vehicle for emergencies, and driving to conditions during the winter.

They hope to reach around 10,000 people during their campaign that lasts until December 21st. The stops are held in High Level and Grand Cache tomorrow and Peace River on Friday December 9th. On Saturday December 10th, a stop will be held in Bonanza and High Prairie. AHS will continue on Monday December 12th through until the following Wednesday in Wabasca, Worsley, Beaverlodge, Hythe, Plamondon, Lac La Biche, Manning, Valleyview, Spirit river, and Swan Hills.
