The province is adopting construction rules that are aiming to make new homes and buildings more energy efficient. This in turn would reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In November, the new codes will go into effect which cover gas, building, electrical and sewage systems. Requirements will be made for lighting, windows, insulation, heating, service-water heating, ventilation and air-conditioning.
The province says although these changes will make new homes more expensive, energy savings are supposed to make up for the increase in the long run.
