New fire unit purchased for Wembley

Wembley Fire Rescue has received a new unit to help them help the community. The County of Grande Prairie contributed half the amount needed to purchase the gently used vehicle. The station bought the Spartan Heavy Rescue Truck for $220,000.

The new unit is the largest heavy rescue vehicle in the county and it will be replacing their old truck. It contains an on-board breathing air cascade which fills breathing air packs on scene. There is also a giant light tower, large storage space and special seating.

This purchase announcement comes after a county fire truck was involved in a single vehicle collision on October 14th. The incident happened on Highway 43 between Range Road 41 and 42. At the time, 511 Alberta had reported icy snow covered roads around the Peace region. There were no firefighters injured. The unit is currently being evaluated.
