Conflict Resolution Day named in Grande Prairie

October 20th in Grande Prairie has been named Conflict Resolution Day.

Grande Prairie Chartered Mediator with Alberta North Mediation Lorraine Nordstrom says the day is meant to highlight ways people can work through arguments effectively.

“We are letting people know that there are other methods of resolving conflict like mediation, arbitration and, what we call, restorative practices.”

She says going through these alternative processes will help save time from going through the court system as well as save a situation from escalating quickly.

“The court system is really plugged right now. People can literally spend years in court. The expense of that is obviously high.”

This year the day will be highlighted with free sessions held in the mediation room at the Grande Prairie Courthouse. The first begins at 9:30 am which focuses on hostile work-related emails and how to deal with them.
